Pause sales outreach when an earthquake disrupts operations
Create a welfare-first pause process for campaigns, sales calls and automated follow-ups without confusing customers or pressuring staff.

Make the pause an operational decision
An earthquake is not a reason to accelerate outreach or demand immediate productivity updates. Muntery Strategic teams should put staff welfare ahead of sales activity and use an agreed continuity process to suspend work. This guide concerns business administration, not emergency response. Follow instructions from the relevant local authorities; Ready.gov provides separate public earthquake guidance.
Give an available continuity lead permission to pause campaigns without waiting for a revenue review. An unavailable manager must not become a bottleneck. Record the decision when practical, but do not require anyone to remain online or access equipment during an emergency.
Find every place that can keep selling
Stopping one email sequence does not necessarily stop the customer journey. Inventory scheduled emails, dialer queues, social posts, advertising, calendar reminders and CRM-triggered follow-ups. Prioritize messages that create immediate expectations, such as invitations to book appointments or promises of a same-day response.
Ask an authorized, available operator to record whether each channel is paused, inaccessible or outside the agency's control. Do not interpret an inaccessible dashboard as confirmation that sending has stopped. Where a client controls the platform, request a pause through the agreed business contact without sharing credentials.
Use a campaign-stop worksheet
The following is an illustrative operational record, not an account of an actual incident. Keep one row per channel so a later operator can distinguish a completed action from an assumption. Store the record in an approved location accessible to the continuity deputy.
- Campaign: account expansion email; owner: available campaign operator.
- Action: suspend sequence and scheduled follow-ups; evidence: platform confirmation.
- Related dependency: booking page still accepts appointments; assign a separate owner.
- Unresolved item: client-managed advertising; request sent through the approved contact.
- Review trigger: continuity lead confirms capacity and authorizes a limited restart.
Communicate the pause without creating pressure
Tell customers only what is confirmed: outreach is paused, response times may change, and another operational update will follow through a named channel. Avoid promising a reopening time before staffing and systems are understood. An update deadline is a communication commitment, not a guarantee that service will resume.
When reviewing the pause, check for queued messages that could all release together. Restarting software is not the same as restarting responsibly. Confirm suppression lists, reply ownership and appointment capacity first. Ready.gov's continuity planning resources support organizing and testing this process; the specific worksheet and approval rules here are suggested agency practices.
