Define participation beyond attendance

An inclusive cricket business event should enable guests to participate meaningfully, not merely enter the venue. Consider whether attendees can find information, travel to the site, follow the programme, use facilities and join conversations. A cricket setting should not assume detailed knowledge of the game or confidence in traditional networking formats.

The ECB’s club support material describes safe, welcoming spaces and inclusive participation as important club characteristics. Translate those principles into operational questions for the venue and organiser. Do not claim that an event is accessible to everyone without checking the actual environment and the needs guests identify.

Ask practical questions before promotion

Confirm step-free routes, suitable seating, toilet access, transport information and emergency arrangements with the venue. Check whether quieter spaces or alternative networking formats are possible. Publish accurate information and a named contact for discussing requirements rather than relying on a broad accessibility statement that leaves guests to investigate.

An illustrative planning sheet can contain requirement, provision, responsible person, confirmation date and unresolved issue. Include dietary needs and non-alcoholic options within hospitality planning. Allow people to decline activities without explaining personal circumstances, and avoid making alcohol consumption or sporting participation a condition of relationship-building.

Handle guest information carefully

Ask only for information needed to arrange appropriate support and explain who will receive it. Some access or dietary information may reveal sensitive personal details. Do not place it in an unrestricted guest list or reuse it for commercial profiling. Obtain specialist advice where the processing requires additional safeguards.

Separate event administration from marketing preferences. ICO guidance remains relevant when guests attend in a business capacity and identifiable information is processed. Attendance does not establish permission for every sponsor to contact the person, and accessibility information should never be used to rank the commercial value of guests.

Review the experience, not just turnout

Brief hosts to introduce people respectfully, explain the schedule clearly and make room for different communication preferences. Provide a route for raising concerns during the event. Where children are involved in any part of the programme, check safeguarding arrangements separately rather than treating the occasion as an ordinary business reception.

Afterwards, invite optional feedback on practical barriers and useful aspects of the format. Report themes without unnecessarily identifying individuals. Muntery Strategic can use the findings to improve invitations, hosting and handover. Success means a more usable business experience, not an unsupported claim that one event has solved inclusion.
