Fix international budget fields that misread buyer amounts
Test currency choices, separators and validation so overseas inquiry forms preserve what buyers intended.

Identify the ambiguity in the input
An international inquiry form can collect a plausible-looking budget that means something different to the buyer and receiving team. Currency symbols, decimal separators and preselected ranges all create ambiguity. A downstream sales qualification problem may begin with the field design.
Review whether an exact amount is necessary at first contact. A clearly explained range or an optional discussion-later choice may support the process better. Do not demand financial precision simply because a CRM field expects a number.
Make denomination explicit
If collecting an amount, separate the numeric value from the currency selection and show understandable instructions. Avoid assuming the buyer's currency from location or browser language. A company operating internationally may plan a project in a currency different from its headquarters.
W3C's labelling and validation guidance supports clear field purposes, required status and recoverable mistakes. For analytics values, Google's currency reference uses explicit currency information. Keep the operational budget record separate from any measurement value so an inquiry is not misrepresented as revenue.
Run a locale-input worksheet
Agree supported formats with the technical owner, then test representative inputs using commas, full stops, spaces and currency symbols. Include blank, zero, range and discussion-later scenarios where offered. Record the entered string, displayed interpretation and stored value.
Check the CRM and export rather than stopping at browser validation. If the system reformats an amount, show the interpretation before submission where appropriate. Server-side handling should reject or clarify ambiguous input instead of silently converting it into a different budget.
- The intended currency remains explicit throughout the journey.
- Supported number formats are explained and tested.
- Errors preserve information and suggest a correction.
- Stored and exported values match the confirmed interpretation.
Protect qualification from false precision
Update sales instructions so a declared budget is treated as buyer-provided context, not proof of approved spending. Where historical records may have been misread, flag them for confirmation rather than automatically reclassifying their suitability.
Retest after changes to form libraries, CRM mappings or localization settings. Review unusually large or small amounts as possible parsing signals, while recognising that unusual budgets can be genuine. The repair should improve interpretation without excluding legitimate international buyers.
